MANILA, Philippines – Sibugay’s Jose Ma. Pague beat local bet Andre Cuevas, 8-1, then trampled another Lanao Del Norte ace Ernest Sonsona, 8-5, to cop the boys’ 16- and 18-and-under crowns in the Cebuana Lhuillier age group tennis series recently.
Pague’s twin title romp was a virtual repeat of his feat in the last stop in Cagayan de Oro even as Richard Bautista of Lanao del Norte defeated provincemate Brent Sigmond Cortes, 8-5, to pocket the boys’ 14-U diadem.
Cortes made up for the loss by taking the 12-U title with an 8-6 win over Nash Agutines while Heinz Asian Carbonilla, who hails from host town Lala, trampled Kurt Gervan Bandolis, 4-1 , 4-0, to bag the 10-unisex plum.
Ozamis City’s Carmeville Gervacio, a perennial winner in the circuit, and citymate Janmarie Anghag split the girls’ 16- and 18-U crowns with the former scoring an 8-5 win and the latter bouncing back with a similar 8-5 victory, respectively.
Another Lanao del Norte player, Gerly Mae Insong took the girls’ 12-U crown with an 8-2 rout of Zamboanga del Sur’s bet Afea Rose Tabudlong.
